Statement from the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) - PeruThe International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) expresses its concern and rejection of the recent approval of a law in Peru that imposes a mandatory 10% programming quota on all broadcasters for content determined by the State.
This measure violates fundamental principles enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 13 of the American Convention on Human Rights, which guarantee freedom of expression and editorial independence.
The IAB reiterates that private broadcasting entities have the legitimate right to freely define their content, without interference or state impositions. Measures like this pose a serious threat to democracy.
We express our full solidarity with the National Society of Radio and Television of Peru and call on the Peruvian authorities to respect democratic principles, international treaties, and the citizens' right to free, plural, and independent information.
