Statement from the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) - Perú
The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) strongly condemns the murder of journalist Raúl Celis López, host of the news program on Radio Karibeña in Iquitos, Peru. This atrocious act represents a direct attack on freedom of expression and the exercise of independent journalism, both fundamental pillars of democracy.
The IAB exhorts the Peruvian authorities to carry out a thorough and expedited investigation to identify and bring to justice those responsible, both intellectually and materially, for this crime. Impunity cannot be an option when critical voices are silenced, and the public's right to be informed is threatened.
We express our solidarity with the family, colleagues, and friends of Raúl Celis López, as well as with all journalists in Peru who continue to perform their work with courage and commitment.
