The city of San José, Costa Rica, hosted IAB's board of directors and important strategic meetings

The Board of Directors met last May 12 in an event organized by the National Chamber of Broadcasting - CANARA.

Several issues relevant to global broadcasting were addressed during the meeting. Resolutions related to the media situation in Argentina, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Venezuela were discussed and approved. Additionally, significant resolutions were approved that will guide the organization's future direction and reinforce IAB's commitment to promoting reforms that ensure its sustainability and evolution in a changing environment.


First, the Board of Directors approved the creation of two new vice-presidencies within the association's structure. Dr. Rafael Inchausti will head the Vice-Presidency of Radio and Dr. Jorge Martínez will head the Vice-Presidency of Television. These appointments are intended to strengthen the Association's presence and representation in each of these industries.

Additionally, a special commission was appointed to study and present a project aimed at modernizing IAB's bylaws. This project seeks to develop a modern governance model that is aligned with the current challenges of the radio and television industries.
 
The meeting was a key forum for analyzing and making strategic decisions in defense of broadcasting interests at the international level, consolidating IAB's commitment to freedom of expression and plurality of information sources.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION - “DR. HÉCTOR OSCAR AMENGUAL” PRESENTED BY ITS PRESIDENT, 
LIC. ANA MARÍA URRUTIA DE LARA

Item 9 of the Agenda included the presentation of the Report of the Committee on Freedom of Expression “Dr. Héctor Oscar Amengual”, carried out by its President, Ms. Ana María Urrutia de Lara, who produced an excellent and complete report, which we are pleased to share with you below.

His report concluded by thanking the expressions of solidarity in defense of free and independent broadcasting in all countries, and remarked that “Disinformation and intolerance are lurking, so it is up to us to be vigilant in the face of the serious and worrying proliferation of these types of threats and others disguised as legal acts, which are promoted by groups with hidden interests in our countries”.

IAB'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS PAID TRIBUTE TO EMILIO NASSAR RODRÍGUEZ

IAB's Board of Directors paid tribute to Emilio Nassar Rodríguez, who served as the organization's Secretary  Vice President, but who was also an officer and member of the Association for several years.

He was an outstanding leader, tireless visionary and generous human being, whose legacy will live on in the history of the media and in the hearts of those who knew him.


THE SALVADORAN SCHOOL OF SPEECH ESAL - ASDER PRESENTED ITS INSTITUTIONAL PROGRESS AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES BEFORE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

In his presentation, Mr. Pacheco mentioned that "there are many political factors dominating narratives against the media in our countries." He added that they are creating a social base of young people who support legally established, regulated media.

Mr. Pacheco presented the progress made by ESAL, including the growth in the number of students and the new courses offered by the school. He also announced the important new agreement that ESAL has reached with Matías Delgado University.
